Day 12 in Tomsk

So little man was all smiles this morning when we came to get him. We stopped at a Russian flea market near the baby home because we had told our interpreter that James wants to get traditional Russian hats for him and the baby. Little man was very good while we were there but pretty quiet, which is a sure sign he is not comfortable. After that we came back to the hotel for lunch. He sure loooves his vegetables let me tell you. I think – in order of preference his favorite foods are: Banana, cucumber, apple, green beans, broccoli, tomato, cauliflower, potato and of course what ever else you put in front of him. This is a good thing. We must be doing a decent job of keeping him on a similar diet to what he eats in the baby home because although we have had many poopy diapers none have been yucky blowouts. Stinky for sure but that is it.

Naptime did not go well to day. At first I though we were going to have nap with no tantrum at all because he saw the yogurt, climbed up in my lap and lay back to eat. Yeah right if only it could be that easy. He’s figured out mama’s trick – ate what he wanted of it then hopped down to play more. Which was fine – I don’t mind him going down late. The problem is the more over tired he gets the more we have tantrum after tantrum over everything. Today I just let him cry it out. It took over an hour. Dear god what a trauma. I thought Edward was annoyed at me for letting it go – but we only have what, about 14 more days, to get him used to the idea that a tantrum is not going to get him what he wants before we have to get on a plane for 11 hours. I am not up for an 11 hour tantrum when he want out of the plane after take off. But this was Edward we are talking about – turns out he slept through it all having his own little nap.

I’d call this battle a draw. Little man did not lay down and go to sleep like mama wanted nor did Mama give him what he wanted – a walk in the hall until he stopped the tantrum. Once he had stopped fussing and was just playing calmly I picked him up and rocked / sang him to sleep – yes in the hall. Those of you who have heard me sing know he probably went to sleep just to get rid of my voice. Hey, what ever works. So now he is napping about an hour late but at least he is napping. Dear god I wonder what bedtime is going to be like once we have him full time!!!!! Seriously all advice on adoption and sleep problems welcome. I know it is common - I just wish I knew if I was dealing with it in a productive way.
